Addendum to previous post.
Well, that vendor let us down as well… Not only did they send us the wrong colored fabric, but their customer service is completely unresponsive. Who knows how helpful they will be the day we finally hear back from them.
I wonder if we’ll have any table linens at all during the wedding. :(
Addendum to the addendum: Wow, their customer service actually called us back and will correct...
Wholesale Fabric Linens! →
I’ve been having the hardest time ever finding places that sell linens. The last vendor I went with seemed promising, but after messing up my order 3 times, I finally canceled with them and called the caterer to see how much linens would cost if we rented from them — the result: $178 for 7 buffet tables. Umm… yeah, so that’s not going to happen either.
Finally, PRAISE THE...

How to alter books into art. →
I had this idea in mind of buying the cheapest discounted book I can possibly find, painting acrylic ivory paint over some of the pages, and using it as a guest book for the wedding. The link above is mostly how to alter the book cover. I’m thinking some cheap book on DC or history might be appropriate. Maybe even a hymnal.

They have a “contact us” page… BRILLIANT. I do not know why I didn’t think of that.

Weather.com has a wedding section. →
What on earth. I mean, seriously, everyone has a wedding section.
(But it’s actually helpful: e.g., consider the guests burning their buns on the metal chairs we ended up renting.)
Fat Quarter Shop →
I like their fat quarter bundles. Wondering if I could convince some friends to make a few streamers.
Crunch time.
It is way past the planning stages! We’re supposed to be buying things now now now! I’m freaking out a little bit, because now the monetary commitments are kicking in. Things yet to be done:
Website, website, website.
Invites, invites, invites.
Design ceremony decor items. (Wind chimes, streamers)
My cousins are concerned about a rainy-day contingency plan… simple: umbrellas....
musicmusicmusic.
I was listening to Manu Chao today, and then I randomly discovered Imogen Heap’s twitter page. And now I’m thinking about how arbitrary and nerve-gratingly interesting it would be to play both as background music while eating. That is probably the extent of my weirdness.
Also, the more I think about having a saxophonist play for the ceremony, the more I’m liking it…...

Dinnerware and such things. →
I don’t know if there’s anything special about this site, except that they have this neat sine-wave-sided dish, and that the site is called Smarty Had a Party.
I’ve determined that buying your own dining do-dads appear to be cheaper than renting from a caterer.

I finally signed up for the Offbeat Bride Tribe. Most invaluable were the pictures, advice, and planning strategies I discovered from the community of likeminded women. And actually, one of the threads got me thinking — I need to start looking into Mother-of-the-Bride dresses, cuz Mom’s going to look good that day.

Following up with the unmatching-but-sort-of-matching pictures of bridesmaids, I did a query of what tea-length dresses my bridesmaids would be interested in wearing, and their answers were, for the most part, compatible. I’m really excited about their selections, and more exhilarated by the introduction of the small level of uncertainty in the planning process.
Sometimes it’s nice...

Also, I’m just really peeved with the caterer right now. We can’t really help misunderstanding, perhaps, but her menu was precisely the kind of menu that I didn’t want. Way too meat-heavy, and practically no acknowledgment of the summer bounty of fruits and vegetables. I thought I’d made it clear that having locally grown fruits and veggies were really important to me. I...

Wedding Cake Recipes. →
You know, I just really like this website. “Mix. Bake.” “Blend in a blender. Pour into a pan. Bake.” Those are my kind of instructions. :)

It appears to be way cheaper to buy heavy-duty plasticware (each being less than twenty cents, usually) than to rent them from event rental companies (who charge about fifty cents per utensil). I do feel guilty about generating all that trash, but green options don’t seem to be very economical as yet. Of note: acemart.com and rhinomart.com. Still not sure what to do about elegant beverage...

I can’t believe I forgot to add Food to our list of tag links on the right side —> This has now been added.
And in other news, per parental request, we’re now allocating a $10k budget to the wedding which, because of our $4k planning, is actually fantastically lavish and will definitely allow us to provide more comfort for the guests. We (well, I) will continue to provide...
